Wesley Wayne Haswell

Wesley Wayne Haswell, a brilliant engineer, devoted family man, and mentor who inspired excellence in everyone he met, passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born on November 12, 1953, in Vistabella, Trinidad, Wesley was the son of Ernest Haswell and Daphne Haswell. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Petalina Haswell; his brother, Brian Haswell; and his sister, Jacqueline Haswell.

Wesley's journey began in Trinidad, where he attended St. Benedict's College before pursuing higher education in the United States. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and a Master of Science in Control Engineering from Washington University, laying the foundation for a distinguished career at the forefront of aerospace and defense technology.

A man of both intellect and service, Wesley served in the United States Air Force, where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. During his service, he demonstrated extraordinary ingenuity, designing an aircraft radar system at a moment's notice alongside his team — a testament to the brilliance and composure under pressure that would define his career.

Wesley's professional path spanned some of the most respected names in engineering. He began at Emerson Electric before moving to Texas Instruments, and ultimately joined Raytheon, where he rose to become Department Manager for Space and Airborne Products and lead of the Analog RF Design Department. He was selected as a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer with Honors distinction — a recognition reserved for the company's most exceptional talent.

A senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Wesley was deeply committed to his profession and his community. He was an active member of the Raytheon Black Employee Resource Group, the Texas Engineering Diversity Council, and the Engineering People Strategy Team. His contributions were recognized with a nomination for the 2006 Black Engineer of the Year Award in the Professional Achievement category.

Beyond his technical achievements, Wesley was a man who believed in lifting others up. He educated and nurtured those around him, encouraging self-sufficiency, excellence, and the courage to strive for more.

Wesley is survived by his son Wesley Haswell Jr. and his wife Aziah Haswell; his son Harold Haswell; his son Darrel Haswell and his wife Smita Haswell; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren and also beloved niece, Faith Cummings all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love for family, faith, integrity, and hard work. Wesley’s celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, with a viewing beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home 2925 Fifth St Sachse TX 75048.

Wesley’s life was marked by service, innovation, wisdom and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, in the engineers he mentored, and the family he loved so deeply.
