Tracy (Thompson) Walvoord
Mrs. Tracy Walvoord gained her angel wings Friday, February 27, 2026 at the age of 66 after a valiant struggle with liver disease.
Tracy was born on December 22, 1959, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Ruth & Howard Thompson. She attended Richardson Public Schools where she developed a love of art. She graduated from Berkner High School in 1978.
After high school, Tracy attended the University of North Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
In 1982, Tracy married the love of her life, Kyle Walvoord. They moved to Longview, Texas where they spent the next 38 years raising their three sons, Travis, Austin & Parker. During those years, Tracy worked in advertising as an artist. She would later return to school to earn a Degree in Teaching and a Masters Degree in Reading with a Reading Specialist Certificate from the University of Texas Tyler.
Tracy taught at East Texas Christian School for more than 20 years, a remarkable career for which she was very proud.
Tracy was a devoted wife and mother. From homeschooling her sons to attending soccer games, she never missed an opportunity to love her family. Among her favorite things during those years were the annual family vacations to Galveston Island.
In 2011, Tracy was given an unexpected diagnosis of liver failure. At the time, she was given less than a week to live. However, her faith, persistence, resilience, and determination defied expectations, enabling her to live an additional fifteen years during which she welcomed three daughters-in-law and four grandchildren.
Tracy & Kyle retired in 2020 and moved to Princeton, Texas to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She joined Legacy Church of Princeton where she served as a volunteer feeding local school staff, teaching Sunday school, and filling in everywhere else she could. She remained passionate about teaching young children to read so she spent much of her recent years teaching her grandchildren to read before they ever stepped foot in a classroom.
Tracy loved hosting family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving when she insisted on cooking the entire meal. She even did so this past Thanksgiving just before she fell ill.
Tracy was preceded in death by her parents, her mother & father along many other loved ones.
She leaves behind her husband, Kyle; son Travis, wife Juanita and daughter Alexandra of Princeton, Texas; son Austin, wife Alyssa and sons Beckham and Brooks of McKinney, Texas; son Parker, wife Ashlyn and daughter Rainie of McKinney, Texas; and sister Jori of Dallas, Texas; Aunt Janice of Canton, Texas; cousin Andrea, husband Gary and son John
