Tony Gilbert Thomas

Tony Gilbert Thomas, 81, passed away on December 26, 2025, in Allen, Texas. Born on January 6, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, Tony lived a full and memorable life rooted in family, music, and the simple joys of the outdoors.

A proud Texan from birth, Tony graduated from high school before embarking on a long career with Southwestern Bell. His dedication to his work was evident throughout his years of service until his retirement in 1994. He served in the Marines for many years, including active duty, including the reserves, it was his civilian life that defined much of his journey.

Tony had a deep love for fishing—a pastime that brought him peace and joy throughout his life. Whether casting a line at a quiet lake or sharing stories by the water’s edge, he found solace in nature. Equally passionate about music, Tony enjoyed playing his guitar, often filling the room with melodies that reflected both his spirit and heritage.

Tony was the son of Oma Lee and Merritt Thomas. He grew up in a large family and was preceded in death by his sisters Hellen, Dorothy, Imogene and JoAnn Thomas; and brothers Bernnie, Melvin, Glenn and David Thomas. His surviving brother, Jerry Thomas, remains to honor his memory.

Family was central to Tony’s world. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Joy Green and her husband Joe; grandson Justin Green; granddaughters Jeanette Barber and her husband Adam, and Jordan Nixon and her husband Logan; as well as great-grandson Jensen Barber.

He also shared a close bond with his extended family through his late wife Suni Lynn Thomas. He is remembered by stepsons Edgar Ritchie and his wife Edie—their daughters Julie East (and her sons Zain, Collin, and Julian) and Shannon Ritchie—and John Ritchie and his wife Melisa—their daughters Haley Zarate her husband Kevin; Tricia Ritchie, and Kelsey Shanks her husband Colton. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were part of his extended circle of love.
