Ronald Lynn Willis, age 89, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2025.
Ron was born on December 12, 1935, and lived a full and faithful life marked by dedication to his family, service to others, and a passion for his community. He graduated from Garland High School in 1954 and earned his degree from Baylor University in 1958.
On June 27, 1959, Ron married the love of his life, Martha F. Cherry. Together, they shared nearly 66 beautiful years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Ron’s professional career spanned 29 years with Kraft Foods. After retiring, he brought his signature warmth and friendliness to a new role as a greeter at Bass Pro Shops, where he helped open the Garland location.
A man of deep faith, Ron was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Garland. There, he served as a deacon and founded the church’s first Users Class in 1961. In 1978, he established the Barnabas Sunday School Department, where he served as Director for 46 years. His leadership extended beyond the classroom, organizing and leading group trips to Branson, Missouri with friends for over two decades.
Ron’s love for community and youth was also evident through his years of coaching baseball teams in Garland. He was a proud member of the Army National Guard for eight years and cherished his time spent fishing, barbecuing, and enjoying fellowship with friends and family.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Martha F. Willis; his children, Robert Willis of Garland, and Michelle (Brett) Mainz of Georgetown, TX; his granddaughters, Mallory Paige of Denver, Colorado, and Natalie Paige of Austin, Texas; and his sister-in-law, Marie Cherry of Cross Plains, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Camille Willis, and his brother, Byron Willis, all of Garland.
Ron will be remembered for his unwavering faith, generous heart, and his ability to bring people together.
The family would like to thank Marscella and Gwyn of Vitas Hospice for the care and support they provided Ron.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church Garland Barnabas Dept. Sunshine Fund or a charity of your choice.
