Richard Doyle Sportsman

Richard Doyle “Ricky” Sportsman, 62, of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on November 22, 1963, in McKinney, Texas. Although born in Texas, Ricky made Arkansas his home for more than half of his life. He loved the Natural State and found peace riding his Harley-Davidson through its winding roads, rolling hills, and beautiful lakes. The outdoors wasn’t just where he spent his time, it was where he felt most alive. Ricky truly never met a stranger. He had a warm smile, a welcoming spirit, and an incredible ability to make people feel like lifelong friends. He loved to laugh and was known for the unmistakable “Sportsman humor” he inherited from his dad and his uncles, Jack, Tommy, and Bill. His quick wit, playful teasing, and infectious laugh could brighten any room. If you were easily offended, you might not have appreciated his jokes, but those who knew and loved him understood they always came from a place of affection and fun. Ricky is survived by his sons, Nicholas Sportsman and Michael Sportsman; the love of his life, Teresa Jacques; his sister, Vickie Sullivan, and her husband, Sean; his Aunt Jonny Sportsman; his Aunt Emma Bordonaro and Uncle Michael Bordonaro; along with numerous cousins and many close friends whom he considered family. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Sportsman; his mother, Jean Garland; and his stepfather, J.C. Garland. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas. Following the service, Ricky’s ashes will be scattered in the beautiful hills of Arkansas, a place he loved deeply and proudly called home for more than half of his life. Ricky’s legacy is one of laughter, friendship, adventure, and a heart big enough to welcome everyone he met. He lived life with authenticity, loved deeply, and treasured the freedom of his Harley, the beauty of the Arkansas countryside, and the people who meant the most to him. Though he will be profoundly missed, the stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will continue to bring comfort to all who were blessed to know him. He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
