Richard Loren Hubbard, Sr.

Richard L. Hubbard, the youngest of three sons born to Leonard L. Hubbard and Frances V. Hubbard, was born in 1946 in Fresno, California. His family later relocated to DeSoto, Texas, where he attended school.

Richard began his career with Phillips 66 Oil as a station manager in Lancaster, Texas. During that time, he met and married Virginia Lloyd. They welcomed their first son, Richard Jr., in late 1966, and their second son, Shawn, in 1972.

An entrepreneur at heart, Richard first became an AAMCO Transmission dealer, operating his own franchise and establishing himself in the automotive industry. He later owned Hubbard Chevrolet dealership in Ferris, Texas, continuing his lifelong dedication to business and automobiles. He was known for his strong work ethic and independent spirit.

Outside of work, Richard had a passion for speed and adventure. He raced 440 class cars, Mini Indy, and Indy cars, embracing the thrill of competition. He was also an avid scuba diver and enjoyed spending time on the golf course.

Richard and Virginia divorced in 1994. He later married Beverly Morris; that marriage also ended in divorce. He remained single for the rest of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard L. Hubbard; his mother, Frances V. Hubbard; his stepfather, Harry Dingenthal; and his elder brother, Larry.

He is survived by his sons, Richard Hubbard Jr. and wife Sharie, and Shawn Hubbard and wife Melissa; grandchildren Travis, Dillon and wife Lauren, Madison and husband Nick, Briee, and great-granddaughter London. He is also survived by Melissa’s children, Christian and wife Hannah, Caleb and wife Kassidy, Cody, Caden, and Crash.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 2925 5th Street, Sachse, Texas 75048. A graveside service will be held at Sachse Cemetery on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
