Melissa Faye James

Melissa Faye James, 59, of Farmersville, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in her husband’s arms and surrounded by love. Her life is remembered not by the illness she faced, but by the love she shared, the kindness she extended, and the joy she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Born on September 10, 1966, at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Ohio to Effie McCoy and Carl McCoy, Melissa grew up with a caring heart, quiet strength, and adventurous spirit that would remain with her throughout her life.

As a teenager, Melissa was baptized into the Church of the Firstborn in Perkins, Oklahoma, by her uncle, Pastor Robert Toland. Her faith became a steady foundation throughout her life, sustaining her through both life's greatest joys and its greatest challenges.

Melissa graduated from Denton High School before proudly joining the United States Air Force. She served four years in Germany, an experience that reflected her adventurous spirit and commitment to serving her country.

After returning home, Melissa began her professional career with Electronic Data Systems (EDS), where she served in a variety of roles over the years. She later spent a brief time working in the telecommunications industry, before eventually returning to EDS, now owned by Hewlett-Packard (HP), where she continued building a successful career in technology for another decade.

In a new chapter of life that reflected her passion for helping others, Melissa transitioned from the corporate world to become a health and life coach. She found deep fulfillment in encouraging, supporting, and empowering people to become healthier and live more meaningful lives.

Melissa had a rare gift for collecting lifelong friends wherever life took her. Whether they had spoken the week before or years earlier, every reunion felt effortless, as if no time had passed at all. Melissa had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and loved. Her generous heart, compassionate spirit, and genuine kindness touched countless lives.

The greatest joy of Melissa's life was the love she shared with her husband, Rodney James. Their relationship was built on friendship, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They affectionately called one another "My Handsome Prince" and "Tapioca Princess Bride," nicknames that reflected the warmth, humor, and deep affection that defined their marriage. Together they built a life rich with treasured memories, adventures, sunsets, and countless moments that will forever remain in Rodney's heart.

Melissa found joy in tending her garden, spending time outdoors, mowing and weed-eating, and relaxing in the swimming pool. She loved to travel, discover new places, and experience the local food and drinks. Among her favorite destinations was Barbados, though no matter where her adventures took her, she never missed a beautiful sunset. Melissa also loved celebrating the Fourth of July, often inviting family and friends to "come blow things up" as they gathered to enjoy fireworks together. As much as she loved those summertime celebrations, one of the highlights of every year was gathering with her beloved family for Thanksgiving in Stillwater, Oklahoma, a tradition she eagerly anticipated and deeply cherished.

In the face of cancer, Melissa demonstrated extraordinary courage and grace. Even during life's most difficult moments, her faith sustained her as she continued to think of others, offering encouragement, hope, and love. Her resilience inspired family and friends alike.

Melissa is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Rodney James; her mother, Effie McCoy; her brother, Karl McCoy; her sister, Heidi (McCoy) Creamer; her many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends who became family.

Melissa was always thinking of others and putting their needs before her own. True to that spirit, she didn't want family and friends to have to travel long distances to gather in one place to celebrate her life. Instead, she wanted to take her Celebration of Life "on tour," making it possible for the many people she loved to celebrate with her closer to home.
