Mary Lou Robinson was born on April 26,1937 to Everett and Lou Ellen Petty in Meade, Oklahoma. She married K.K. Robinson in 1953 and they had two children, Kenneth Kadane Robinson II (Kenny) and Mary Kathleen Robinson (Kathy). They made their home in McKinney, Texas. Mary departed this earth for her heavenly home on August 6, 2024.
Mary worked for decades as a supervisor for Haggar Slacks in McKinney. There is no doubt she bears some responsibility for the proper way in which their clothing is made today. She was a gifted seamstress.
Regarding the jobs for which she earned a salary, she then spent countless years at Fisher Controls in McKinney and after that, Texas Instruments - from where she eventually and finally retired. She was an extraordinarily hard worker, earning numerous accolades from her employers, and not surprisingly, she was a very beloved supervisor for all of those who worked for and with her.
Her professional life was undoubtedly a significant chapter, but it was merely the foundation upon which her true legacy was built. That was just the cake. The filling was the heart and soul she put into those jobs for which a salary is most deserved, but not earned. She proudly held the titles of “Momma” and “Nanny” in her role as caretaker in the form of a mother and a grandmother. She was the absolute best. There was nothing that she would not do for or give to her kids or grandkids. She made sure they never wanted for anything and most of all – made sure that they were loved-and that they knew it. There were frequent and spirited discussions amongst the interested parties over who held the title of “the favorite.”
Doesn’t every great cake need icing? Mary’s had the best. It came in the form of six Great Grandchildren. Goodness how she loved those babies. She helped to raise every single one of them from the time they were in the cradle to well into their 20s. What an absolute blessing she was to them, and they in turn were to her. She loved them the most. One can probably surmise that those expert level seamstress skills came in very handy over her 87 years. She handmade clothes, elaborate Halloween costumes, special occasion wear, and cheerleading uniforms for her children, grandchildren, and later in life those wonderful great grandchildren. They certainly brought out the best in her. She was in for all of it. Whether the activity was fishing with the boys, sitting together on the porch watching the birds fly in and out of her bird feeders, or just running around and playing in the yard, the word “no” was seldom in her vocabulary when it came to “the Greats.”
Mary made sure that every family Christmas and Thanksgiving meal was proper and complete with enough of her extraordinary cooking to feed an army. It was not uncommon for her to make ten or more desserts to cover everyone’s favorite, with extra set aside for everyone to take home. This was the best form of her gifts. These selfless acts of kindness and love were geared to make each person that she loved feel that they were extra special to her.
To say that she was loved and will be missed is an understatement. She is the glue that weaves through the fibers of her family. The heartbeat of its body. Her legacy is extraordinary. Mary is survived by her brothers Earl Petty of Princeton, Roy Petty and wife Brenda of Princeton, Johnny Petty and wife Daisy of Princeton, sister in law Barbara Petty of McKinney, daughter Kathy Robinson of McKinney, daughter in law Donna Hartman of Pottsboro, granddaughter Kim Cave and husband Danny of Princeton, grandson Kenny (Bubba) Robinson and wife Roma of Pottsboro, granddaughter Kaci Robinson of McKinney, grandson Rusty Brashear and wife Stephanie of McKinney, great grandsons Mikey Hughes, Dillon Hughes, Corbin Hughes, Cameron Adams, Keegan Robinson, Donovan Olsen, great granddaughter Kyrsten Robinson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents LouEllen and Everett Petty, K.K. Robinson, her son Kenny Robinson, brother Lewis Petty, and sisters Ramona Murley and ReaEllen Robinson.
