Mary Jo Bussey Day was born October 28, 1940 to Sherman Ottie & Dora Jean Bussey in Jermyn, Texas.  On March 4, 2026, Mary passed away at her home in Garland, Texas with her family by her side.  She married Jerry Day on July 21, 1961.  Mary received her Doctorate of Education Degree from North Texas State University.  Garland ISD was Mary's employer for 23 years. She was the principal at Williams Elementary for 14 years.  

Mary is survived by her daughter Melissa Savor and son-in-law John of Garland, grandson Jacob Nelson and wife Allison of Richardson, great grandson Levi Nelson of Richardson.  Daughter-in-law Sofia Day and three granddaughters.  Numerous other loved family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Day, son Gerald Day, granddaughter Amber Henard, sister Virginia Bussey Parsons, and parents Sherman and Dora Jean Bussey.
