Martin E Gilby, 64, of Murphy, TX, passed away on March 23, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and quiet acts of kindness that will not be forgotten.
Born on June 29, 1961 in Lansing, Michigan to Aubrey Jr. and Mary Ann Gilby. Martin grew up in the small town of Rosebush, Michigan, alongside 5 brothers and 2 sisters, where he learned the value of hard work and a good sense of humor. Throughout his life, he carried with him curiosity to always learn something new, accompanied by his determination to succeed.
Martin served in the U.S. Navy for 9 years, setting the bar for his career in aviation after the military. Known as Marty in the workplace, he was more than just a colleague or leader of his own companies. He was the person others turned to for mentorship and always found the good in people; providing advice, patience, and a steady hand. Whether at work or at home, he believed in doing things the right way, even when it took longer.
Outside of work, Martin found his rhythm in home projects and helping others, as he was a jack of all trades. He could often be found in the garage with a home project or a model airplane soon to be finished. He found peace in listening to music and spending time with his family. He was truly the definition of a family man.
To his family, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. His love was nothing short of unconditional and his legacy lives on in the lessons he passed down and the memories he helped create with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sherri Gilby of Murphy, TX; children, Brandon Spencer of Garland, TX and Brandea McClellan of Jones, OK; granddaughter, Ivee McClellan of Jones, OK; brother, Mark Gilby of Conroe, TX; sisters, Lori Snyder of Heath, TX and Kelli Gilby of Rowlett, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Don, Dennis, Roger, and Ron.
Family and friends will be received during a visitation on April 2, 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Charles W Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, TX. Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Garden of the Cross at Lake View Cemetery by Charles W Smith Funeral Home in Lavon, TX with Chaplain Dr. Josh Blakley officiating.
Though he is gone, Martin remains present in the small things—the habits he passed on, the stories still told, and the laughter that carries his echo forward.
