Martha Sue Spencer May, age 90, a cherished longtime resident of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on May 15, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born on November 15, 1935, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Marion Elbert Spencer and Grace Capps Spencer of Nocona, Texas.

Martha was a woman of remarkable character, dedication, and compassion. After graduating from Midwestern University, she pursued her passion for education and began her teaching career at Meadows Elementary School in Plano, Texas, in 1970. Over the course of two decades, she devoted herself to shaping the minds and hearts of countless fourth-grade students. Known for her engaging classroom presence, unwavering patience, and genuine care for every child, Martha did far more than teach academic subjects—she instilled confidence, encouraged curiosity, and helped young people develop the values and life skills needed to succeed. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom, and she remained fondly remembered by many former students and colleagues throughout her life.

Outside of her professional accomplishments, Martha was deeply devoted to her family and faith. She will be remembered for her warmth, strength, kindness, and steadfast love for those around her. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who knew her.

Martha is survived by her children, Shawn Smith of Princeton, Texas; Lisa Davison of Lakewood Village, Texas; and Todd Smith of Dallas, Texas; as well as her stepdaughter, Marsha Nievar. She leaves behind a treasured legacy through her grandchildren: Kimberlee Flatt of Princeton, Texas; Alyssa Barstow of Lakewood Village, Texas; Zachary Faris of Highland Village, Texas; and Darcy Cardwell of Corinth, Texas. She was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David May, whose memory she cherished throughout her life.

A memorial service celebrating Martha’s life will be held on June 26, 2026 at 1:00 p.m, at First Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, where she was a faithful and longtime member. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived and a woman whose love, wisdom, and kindness left a lasting mark on all who knew her.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude for the many expressions of love, support, and sympathy received during this time of loss. Martha’s legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family will continue to inspire future generations.
