Linda Hartel Downing

Linda Hartel Downing, 84, of Nevada, Texas, passed away on July 30, 2026. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Linda lived a life defined by faith, devotion, and a deep love for her family.

Linda grew up in a proud military family, providing a childhood that shaped her strength, resilience, and sense of service. Her journey eventually led her to West Point, where she met the love of her life, Harry Ellsworth Downing. Their marriage became a lifelong partnership built on commitment, prayer, and shared ministry.

Linda was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She was known for her gentle spirit, her fierce faith, and her powerful dedication to prayer. She was one of the best prayer warriors — if you knew Linda, she prayed for you. Her faith was active and heartfelt, and she carried the needs of others with genuine love.

Together, Linda and Harry taught Sunday School in several churches over the years, guiding children from pre‑K through high school. Linda also mentored young ladies, encouraging them in their Christian walk with wisdom, compassion, and steady support. Her ministry touched countless lives and left a lasting impact.

Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Harry Ellsworth Downing, and her three children; Laura Sheriff and husband Jeff, Harry E. Downing, Jr. and wife Cynthia and Mark William Downing and wife Blanca.

She adored her grandchildren: Jason, Noah, Ellsworth, Zachary, Reid, Stuart, Mark Jr., Angelo, and Luke— each one deeply loved and prayed over. Her joy extended to her great‑grandchildren: Brian, Elijah, Jonah, Ezra, Wyatt, Everet, Cameron, Caden, Angelica, Eric, Dominic and her two very special great‑granddaughters, Clare and Annika.

Linda will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, her steadfast faith, and the way she made every person feel seen, valued, and prayed for. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the countless lives she touched.
