Karen Woodard Burr, born February 5, 1947, in Vinita, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.
Karen graduated from Lake Highlands High School and went on to attend Stephen F. Austin University, where she continued her love of learning and languages. In 1969, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Burr, beginning a lifelong partnership built on devotion and family.
Karen dedicated her career to education, teaching French and Spanish at several high schools in Virginia and Dallas. She was a passionate educator who inspired countless students with her enthusiasm for language and culture. She retired in May 2011 after many years of faithful service.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Karen is survived by her daughter, Kristen Vousboukis (Scott); her grandchildren, Alex Vousboukis (Danielle), Elizabeth Vousboukis, and Jonathan Vousboukis; and her great-grandson, Scott Alexander Vousboukis, II.
Karen also loved to cook and express her care for others through meals shared with family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, generosity, and togetherness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Helen Woodard.
Karen will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to her students, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched as a teacher and in the family she cherished.
