Josefina Medina Hernández Ramos (May 1943-Januaury 2026)
Josefina H. Ramos, known affectionately as Josie or Fina, of El Paso, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 16, 2026, in the home of her eldest son, Rafael Ramos Jr., surrounded by his family.
Fina was born on May 20, 1943, in Chihuahua, Mexico, and was the first of five cherished children of the late Julio and Consuelo Hernández. She became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States on June 27, 1960, and graduated from Bowie High School in El Paso. She earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in Social Services from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1985. Josie dedicated her career to serving others as a social worker, where she helped those in need of social programs and became a court advocate, working directly with many judges. She also served as a visiting nurse, administering to the sick, and was deeply admired and loved by those who knew her.
In her retirement years, Josie continued her commitment to helping others by volunteering at local churches in El Paso, Sachse, TX, and Tucson, AZ. She donated many hours to the church, serving and making food, creating crafts for those in need through the Sachse Senior Center, and teaching catechism classes to the youth. Her compassion and dedication to her community were remarkable and appreciated by many.
Josie is survived by her three children, Rafael Ramos Jr., Héctor Ruben Ramos, and Lourdes Ramos Genera, as well as her grandchildren, Victoria E. Ramos Thomas (great-grandchild, Jalen Ramos Thomas), Christian, Brianna, Olivia E. Ramos, Noah and Andrea E. Ramos. She is also survived by her siblings, Graciela and Carmen Patricia. She was predeceased by her brother Julio Alfonso (USMC, who perished during the Vietnam War) and her baby brother Martín.
We invite you to join us in remembering and honoring Josefina’s life.
