In Loving Memory of Jose Elizondo Jr

Jose Elizondo Jr., known simply as “Joe” to his family and friends, was born on November 1, 1942, in Galveston, Texas, to his beloved parents, Jose and Guadalupe Elizondo. On April 22, 2026, Joe was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, passing peacefully at his residence in Allen, Texas.

Joe’s early years were shaped in Chicago, where his intelligence and determination set him apart. He graduated as Valedictorian from an all-boys high school, a testament to his discipline and dedication. He carried those same qualities into a remarkable 43-year career as a freight conductor with Union Pacific Railroad. Joe worked in an era before modern technology, when journeys were marked by the rhythm of the rails and the beauty of the passing landscape. He often shared stories of those days—when people looked out train windows, connected with one another, and appreciated the world in a quieter, more meaningful way. Along the way, Joe formed lifelong bonds, considering many of his coworkers as brothers, where they enjoyed saying, “Joe knows,” in unison and laughter.

Joe was a man of deep faith and unwavering devotion. Though there was a time in his life when he spent many years away from the Church, God’s grace never left him. After 22 years, Joe found his way back to his faith—a return made even more meaningful through the love of his devoted wife, Tele. Through her love and God’s calling, Joe renewed his walk with Christ, embracing once again the peace, strength, and purpose found in Him. As Scripture reminds us, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep” (Luke 15:6). His return was not only a homecoming of faith, but a beautiful testament to God’s enduring mercy and the power of love to guide us back.

For over 50 years, Joe was a proud 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Chicago, living a life guided by service, integrity, and compassion. Above all, he loved God, his family, and his country.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tele, who stood by his side through life’s many chapters and helped lead him home in faith. He leaves behind his cherished children, Chris, Lisa, and Dominic, who carry forward his legacy of strength and love. Joe was a proud and devoted grandfather to Claire and Brianna, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brother Gil, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever hold his memory close.

Joe found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—bowling with friends, fishing in quiet waters, cooking meals that brought people together, reading, crafting jewelry, and traveling. His love for cooking became a gift he passed down to his children, a lasting reminder of the warmth he created in his home, especially through his famous spaghetti meat sauce and his unforgettable Chicago-style ribs.

Joe will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong values, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
