Jonathan David Angel

Jonathan David Angel, 46, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Jonathan was born on April 29, 1980, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Karen Kelani Angel. His life took him far beyond his Texas roots, and over the years he called Texas, Alaska, New York, Florida, and Hawaii home. Jonathan was truly a jack of all trades. As a young man, he spent a short time serving in the United States Navy. Throughout his life, he worked in many different trades, including fast food, automotive mechanics, and even aboard a fishing boat in Alaska. He wasn’t afraid of hard work and had a way of learning as he went, picking up skills and experiences wherever life took him. Jonathan was funny—genuinely, effortlessly funny. He was always making jokes, often at his own expense, and could make people laugh even during difficult times. He was stubborn, fiercely protective, heartbreakingly handsome, and, as those who loved him best would readily admit, a pain in everyone’s ass. Jonathan had an enormous heart. He gave even when he couldn’t. He stood up for his people, loved fiercely, and was deeply protective of those he considered his own. He loved music and loved it loud. System of a Down was a favorite, and he wasn’t shy about singing at the top of his lungs in the car. He loved The Simpsons, the movie 300, laughing, joking, and simply having a good time.

Jonathan shared an especially close bond with his grandfather, Harvey Dale Angel, whom he lovingly called “Pops.” Harvey’s death in July 2019 was a profound loss for Jonathan, and he carried his love for Pops with him for the rest of his life. Jonathan was incredibly proud of his daughter, Cianna, whom he loved deeply, and of the family she built. He was a proud grandfather to Thomas, Liam, and Noah. Jonathan’s path through life was not always an easy one. He faced difficult chapters, but he never stopped hoping for better ones. He wanted a different future for himself and believed that even the hardest parts of his life could someday have meaning. In one of his final conversations with his sister Tanya, whom he affectionately called “Tiny,” Jonathan talked about God and what God might someday do with his story. Jonathan’s story was so much bigger than his hardest days. He was a son, a big brother, a father, a grandfather, a grandson, and a friend. He was funny and stubborn, generous and protective. He loved his family, and he was loved deeply in return. Jonathan was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Harvey Dale Angel Sr; and his uncles, Harvey Angel Jr., James Angel, David Angel, and Eric Crossen.

Jonathan is survived by his mother, Karen Kelani Angel; his grandmother, Betty Jean Angel; his sisters, Sara Mei Lin Kapiolani McFerran and her husband, Andrew, Tanya Kei Lin Hokulani Velasquez and her husband, Daniel, and Amanda Kathleen Leilani Burkett and her husband, Ryan; his daughter, Cianna Honey Angel-Knotts and her husband, Matthew; his grandsons, Thomas Knott, Liam Knott, and Noah Knott; his aunts, Suzanne Crossen, and Lorraine Foltz and her husband, Joseph; as well as many other family members and friends who loved him. Jonathan David Angel was more than his hardest days, and his story will be remembered in full. We will gather to honor Jonathan’s life and lay him to rest on August 31, 2026, at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas. Viewing begins at 1 p.m., with the service beginning at 2 p.m.
