John Joseph Devine

John Joseph Devine went peacefully to his eternal home on April 29,2026 at age 91, while at home surrounded by his family. John was born to Edwin and Gertrude Devine on September 17, 1934 in Woodridge, New Jersey.

John enlisted in the Navy right out of High School and served as a Medic, and as a Corpsman with the Marines. He faithfully served his country for 20 years, ending in his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer. His love for the military and his country was very evident.

John met his wife Bonna in her hometown of Beulah, ND while he was employed by Stone and Webster, as a Safety Supervisor, building the Coyote Station Power Plant. He moved with his job to Dallas, TX and Bonna followed and they were married on November 22, 1980. He continued to work for Stone and Webster until his retirement.

John and Bonna have twin daughters Heather Smith (Lor) and Erin Rustan (Brian) and four beautiful granddaughters Ashlin, Paisley, Quinn, and Ruby.

He loved reading and learning new things, an endeavor that started at a very early age and served him well throughout his entire life. This, he faithfully instilled in his daughters and granddaughters. He was also devoted to his faith in Christ and passed it on to his family as well. He was a faithful member of God's Church his entire life and was devoted to the hearing of the Word, ensuring the passing on of the faith to future generations .

He joins his father and mother (Edwin and Gertrude) and his brother and sisters (Jean, Ed, and Miriam) in heaven.

John's Celebration of Life will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Plano, TX on May 16th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memoriam to Messiah Lutheran Church.
