Jean Ann Dungan, 88, of McKinney, Texas passed away on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025. She was born in the home of her grandparents, Bob and Stella Scott, in McKinney on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1936. Her parents, Vernon and Opal Haynes, and her brothers Bill, Bobby, Scott, and Danny lived in Chambersville, Texas. She entered Chambersville School in 1943 and finished the eighth grade there in 1951. Jean then attended Boyd High School in McKinney where she graduated in 1955. It was there that she met her husband, Bill Dungan. Jean and Bill were married in 1953 and their marriage lasted 57 years until Bill’s death in 2010.
After graduating from high school, Jean went to live with Bill in Anchorage, Alaska during his service in the Army. Bill and Jean then moved back to McKinney. They lived for two years in Plano, Texas, and then settled in New Hope, east of McKinney, where they lived for several decades. They had three children, Carol, Gary, and Teresa, and two grandchildren, Blake and Stacy.
Jean was active in the PTA while her children were in school. She was also very active in her church. She was a member of the Davis Street Church of Christ, which moved to west McKinney as Westside Church of Christ, which then moved north as High Pointe Church of Christ. Most recently, she was a member of the Collin County Church of Christ.
Jean worked at a variety of places in and around McKinney. Her first job was at the Duke & Ayres store on the downtown square. She worked at the Collin County National Bank. She worked at the Sears catalog center for many years. She was the church secretary at Westside Church of Christ. She worked as a teacher at the Heritage Learning Center, and later worked as a private nanny before retiring.
She is survived by her brother, her children, her grandchildren, and other extended family members.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Bill, Bobby, and Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 601 South Tennessee Street, McKinney, Texas, 75069. Stan Quesenberry will be officiating.
