Glenda Sullivan Chilcoat Lewis, lovingly known to many as “Chilcoat,” passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on February 4th at 1:01 p.m., at the age of 88. She stepped through the gates of glory surrounded by a lifetime of love, memories, and faith.
Glenda was born on September 15, 1937, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to her parents, Virgil and Doc Sullivan, who preceded her in death. She spent half of her life in Garland, Texas, and the other half in Farmersville and Wylie, Texas, places where she built a life defined by hard work, laughter, and deep family roots.
She was married twice: first to James Chilcoat, and later to Al Lewis, both of whom passed before her. Together with Al, Glenda traveled extensively, visiting every state in the United States and cruising to many countries around the world. There was truly “no grass growing under her feet.”
Glenda retired from Rockwell International at the remarkable age of 52, a place where many friends fondly called her “Chilcoat.” Retirement did not slow her down, it simply gave her more time to live fully.
She was the proud mother of four children: Katrina Legacy; Carol Littleton and her spouse, Park; Melanie Stebner and her spouse, Brian; and Darren Chilcoat, who preceded her in death.
She was a devoted grandmother to Kerri Thomas; Courtney Ammerman and her spouse, Paul; Nikki Brown and her spouse, Billy; Rory Stebner and his spouse, Hope; Chance Stebner and Cash Stebner.
Glenda was blessed with a large and loving legacy of great-grandchildren: Tryston, Peri, Hayes, Marti, Collier, Hooper, Daylin, Collin, Rylan, Corbin, Colby, Alex, Alijah, Emma, and Madelyn. She was also a cherished great-great-grandmother to Audrie, Jazlyn, Gracelynn, and Dakota.
She is survived by her beloved baby sister, Marilyn Dommel, and her spouse, Gary Dommel, as well as her sister-in-law, Rose Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her siblings J.E. Sullivan, Mellie Pryor, and H.D. Sullivan.
Known affectionately as Mom, Mimi, Great-Mimi, and Great-Great Mimi, Glenda was the heart of her family, the Queen Bee, and the foundation of the beautiful generations she helped create. A hard worker by nature and by upbringing, she lived with determination, grace, and joy. She lit up every room she entered, and her stories and adventures were too numerous to count.
Glenda had a deep love for quilting, leaving each family member a handmade treasure. She also enjoyed collecting porcelain baby dolls, teacups, china, and delicate keepsakes displayed lovingly in shadow boxes. One of her greatest joys was dancing, especially with her husbands, James and Al. She loved all kinds of music, and her family takes comfort in knowing she is dancing now, just as King David danced before the Lord.
Above all else, Glenda loved God with all her heart. She was truly blessed and highly favored, and her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her family rejoices knowing she experienced life richly and now walks the streets of gold.
Though hearts are broken, her legacy of love, faith, and family lives on. The family asks for continued prayers as they journey forward, until the day they are reunited face to face once again.
