Garry Wayne Mathewson, 67, of Garland, Texas passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 10, 1957 in Topeka, Kansas, he was the cherished son of Wayne Arthur Mathewson and Jacqualine Jean Crisler.
In his early years, Garry's family relocated to Garland, where he graduated from Berkner High School in 1975. Answering the call to serve, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1975 during the Vietnam era. Garry pursued a career as a Avionics Inertial Radar Navigation Systems Specialist, taking pride in his critical work on B-52 aircraft.
Garry was known for his warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family. He had a passion for football, fishing, and playing pool. Above all, he treasured moments spent with is beloved grandchildren, Sienna and King.
In November 2023, Garry was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer and was given a prognosis of ten months. Defying expectations, he was blessed with eighteen months, during which he continued to inspire those around him with his strength and spirit.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Claudia Mathewson; his children, Steven Paul, Jacqualine Angelica, and Jonah Wayne Mathewson; his mother, Jacqualine Jean Mathewson; his siblings, Ricky Mathewson, Amaryllis Mathewson, Lavonne Neilson, and Tina Freeman; and his cherished grandchildren, Sienna and King.
Garry was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Arthur Mathewson, and his sister, Gay Thevenet.
