Encarnación “Ann” Damián Hincapie

Encarnación “Ann” Damián Hincapie, 90 years young, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12th, 2026.

She was born April 29th, 1936, on the family farm in Timbío, near Popayán, Cauca, Colombia, the second eldest of twelve siblings. At thirteen, she left home to pursue an education against her father’s will. At sixteen, she fled again to avoid an arranged marriage. At eighteen, she moved to Cali, Colombia, to finish her education and work in a hospital — the same hospital where, at twenty-two, she earned a place in a scholarship program to become a nurse. She later enrolled in English classes in Cali hosted by the United States, which opened a path to a visa, and it was there she first met her future husband. She immigrated to the United States in 1963 by way of Houston, Texas, and soon after moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she reunited with the man who would become her husband of 52 years. After the birth of her two children, and tired of Chicago winters, the family of four moved to Texas in 1980, settling in Grand Prairie, where she lived until her later years.

She was the best mixture of an independent, spirited woman and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, becoming a beloved figure among her community, family, friends, and church. Everyone was captivated by her smile, her warmth, and her sometimes extreme honesty — which always came from a place of wanting the best for anyone she was connected to. She loved to travel and spent much of her later years seeing the world.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernardo Jesus Hincapie; nine siblings; and one niece. She is survived by her daughter, Janette Patricia, and husband Robert Renn Rothrock III; her son, Jose Arthur Hincapie; her granddaughter, Alyssa Maria, and husband David Wright; her grandson, Robert Renn Rothrock IV; her niece, Lia Mar Oliveros, and husband Armando Quintero, and their children, Laia Marcela Quintero Oliveros and Christian Armando Quintero Oliveros; her brother, Octavio Damián; her sister, Reyna Maria; 22 nieces and nephews and their children; plus a large assortment of adopted family who adoringly called her abuela.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Road, Richardson, TX 75081, at 1:30 p.m., with Rosary at 1:00 p.m. Following the Mass, a procession will proceed to the church columbarium, where she will be inurned beside her beloved husband. A reception will immediately follow on the church grounds.

Encarnación “Ann” Damián Hincapie, con 90 años de juventud, residente de Garland, Texas, falleció en paz el domingo 12 de julio de 2026.

Nació el 29 de abril de 1936 en la finca familiar en Timbío, cerca de Popayán, Cauca, Colombia, siendo la segunda de doce hermanos. A los trece años dejó su hogar para buscar una educación, en contra de la voluntad de su padre. A los dieciséis, huyó nuevamente para evitar un matrimonio arreglado. A los dieciocho, se trasladó a Cali, Colombia, para terminar sus estudios y trabajar en un hospital — el mismo hospital donde, a los veintidós años, obtuvo un lugar en un programa de becas para convertirse en enfermera. Más adelante se inscribió en clases de inglés en Cali, auspiciadas por los Estados Unidos, lo cual le abrió el camino hacia una visa, y fue allí donde conoció a su futuro esposo. Emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1963, llegando por Houston, Texas, y poco después se trasladó a Chicago, Illinois, donde se reencontró con el hombre que se convertiría en su esposo durante 52 años. Tras el nacimiento de sus dos hijos, y cansada de los inviernos de Chicago, la familia de cuatro se mudó a Texas en 1980, estableciéndose en Grand Prairie, donde vivió hasta sus últimos años.

Fue la mejor combinación de una mujer independiente y de gran espíritu, con la entrega de una esposa, madre y abuela devota, convirtiéndose en una figura querida entre su comunidad, su familia, sus amigos y su iglesia. Todos quedaban cautivados por su sonrisa, su calidez y su honestidad a veces extrema — que siempre nacía del deseo de lo mejor para cada persona con quien se relacionaba. Le encantaba viajar y dedicó gran parte de sus últimos años a conocer el mundo.

Le precedieron en la muerte su amado esposo, Bernardo Jesus Hincapie; nueve hermanos; y una sobrina. Le sobreviven su hija, Janette Patricia, y su esposo, Robert Renn Rothrock III; su hijo, Jose Arthur Hincapie; su nieta, Alyssa Maria, y su esposo, David Wright; su nieto, Robert Renn Rothrock IV; su sobrina, Lia Mar Oliveros, y su esposo, Armando Quintero, junto con sus hijos, Laia Marcela Quintero Oliveros y Christian Armando Quintero Oliveros; su hermano, Octavio Damián; su hermana, Reyna Maria; 22 sobrinos y sus hijos; además de una gran familia del corazón que con cariño la llamaba abuela.

La Misa exequial se celebrará el miércoles 22 de julio de 2026 en la Iglesia Católica Saint Joseph, 600 S. Jupiter Road, Richardson, TX 75081, a la 1:30 p.m., con el rezo del Santo Rosario a la 1:00 p.m. Después de la Misa, se realizará una procesión hacia el columbario de la iglesia, donde sus cenizas serán depositadas junto a las de su amado esposo. A continuación, se ofrecerá una recepción en los terrenos de la iglesia.

Un agradecimiento muy especial a los propietarios, al personal y a los residentes de ABBA Care Assisted Living en Garland, Texas, por haberla recibido y por el cuidado y la atención tan personales que le brindaron en sus últimas semanas.
