Wylie

Dorothy Jean (Graves) Medcalf was born in Melissa, Texas to Glen Lewis and Nina Graves. She passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at the age of 93 at her home in Wylie, Texas. Dorothy was the third of eight children. She had six brothers that catered to her and cared for her greatly.

Dorothy graduated from McKinney High School at the age of 16. While in High School, she met the love of her life, James Medcalf who she married in 1951, they were married for 73 years before his passing in December of 2024. She raised her three children and then went to work as an Administrative Assistant retiring at the age of 89 years.

She and James loved life on the lake, spending time on the patio taking in the beautiful water views. Boating, fishing, and simply enjoying the lake lifestyle were among their favorite pastimes. She also loved spending time in her yard, planting and caring for her flowers.

For many years, she and James traveled with a Square Dance Club in their travel trailer and made wonderful memories along the way. She especially loved trips to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas, along with the many cruises she took with family and friends. Family was always an important part of her life, and weekly dinner outings became a special tradition. In the later years, before James became ill, Saturdays often meant breakfast out followed by an hour or two at the casino, a routine they looked forward to almost every week. On the Saturdays they skipped the casino, you could often find the two of them browsing estate sales.

Dorothy is preceeded in death by her parents, husband James Medcalf and son Ronnie Medcalf. Sister Audrey Evans, brothers, Don Graves, Billy Graves and Bobby Graves.

She is survived by daughter Connie Cother and husband John, son Jimmy Medcalf, and daughter-in-law Jo Nell Medcalf.
