Don Gordon Smith, Sr., age 76, of Sachse, Texas, passed away on July 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 15, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Garland, Don was adopted as an infant by Claude and Ethel Smith, who raised him with love, discipline, and values that shaped his life. Later in life, Don was blessed to reconnect with his biological family and discovered two brothers, Glenn Pabody and Cory Pabody, forming meaningful relationships that added a rich and unexpected chapter to his story.
Don dedicated 35 years to law enforcement, proudly serving as a police officer committed to protecting his community with courage, fairness, and unwavering integrity. He was known among fellow officers and all who knew him as a steady, principled presence—a protector who led by quiet example.
After retiring, Don embraced country life. He boarded horses, tractor mowing, and found fulfillment in working outdoors with his hands. Whether upholding the law or working outside, Don believed in doing things the right way—with purpose and pride.
Don was a proud Master Mason, and an active member of both the Scottish Rite and York Rite, as well as a devoted Shriner. These fraternal orders were more than affiliations—they were reflections of his core values: service, brotherhood, humility, and charity.
A gifted storyteller, Don had a way of drawing people in with humor, vivid detail, and that unmistakable twinkle in his eye. His stories—whether from his days on the force, fishing and hunting trips, or just ordinary life—were his way of connecting with the world around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Paulette Smith; his son, Don Gordon Smith, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Jenna Smith; and his cherished grandchildren, Emily Smith and Ryan Smith. He is also survived by his brothers, Glenn Pabody and Cory Pabody, along with a wide circle of extended family, Masonic brothers, fellow police officers, former colleagues, and lifelong friends.
Don will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal brother, respected police officer, and faithful Mason. His legacy endures in the values he lived, the stories he shared, and the love he gave so generously.
