David Joseph Dass

David Joseph Dass of Dallas, Texas, passed from this earthly life into eternal life on Wednesday June 18, 2026.

David was born in 1933 in Muzaffarnagar in Utter Pradesh to parents Theresa and Benjamin Dass. He was the youngest of six siblings.

He studied at Sita Saran Intercollege where he played volleyball, field hockey and football (soccer). Soccer was his favorite. He even became the team captain.

He met Hilda at the hospital where he worked in the office, and she was serving as a private nurse for her brother-in-law who was admitted there for a kidney transplant. The moment he saw her he told his friend how beautiful she was. They wed in 1961. They lived in Arjun Nagar with their three children.

Hilda’s sister, Olivia, was attending SMU in Dallas and had reached out to them about moving and working in the USA. Olivia sponsored them and in April 1972 they moved to Dallas, Texas with three young children to help with the nursing shortage. She began working at Presbyterian Hospital. He was taught to drive by his brother-in-law, Terry, and bought their first car, a 1958 VW Beetle. They sponsored several nurses from India to also come work in Dallas. It started with Jasmine and Sadiq Bhatti, Ellie and Jacob Bhatti and Kamal and Arthur Jacob, and the list goes on from there. He began working at United Mechanical. That company moved off Plano Road so in 1974, they bought their home in Lake Highlands where he resided until he passed. They worked hard to provide a good future for their children and stayed strong in their faith and love of God. They hosted weekly prayer meetings in their home as there were no Indian churches at the time. Their home became a gathering place for all Indian Christians. David was also active in church. He served as Deacon at Northminster Presbyterian Church and attended church at Lake Highlands Presbyterian as much as possible in the last year.He enjoyed working with his hands whether it was home projects, fixing cars, or growing vegetables and beautiful flowers in the garden with Hilda.

Through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and faith!

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Hilda, his sisters: Theodora Samuel, Daisy Willams, Eva Dayal, and his brothers: Emmanuel and Samuel Dass.

He is survived by his sons Cecil Dass (wife Ashita), Ajay Dass (wife Natalie), daughter Neena Campbell (husband Danny), grandsons Christopher (wife Katy) and Andrew Dass, great grandchildren Nike, Edie, Dashton, and Lady Bird, and several nieces and nephews in Dallas and India.
