Charlie Andrew Lawrence (1959-2026)

Chief Petty Officer Charlie Andrew Lawrence, U.S. Navy, Retired, 67, of Sachse, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026.

Born on March 28, 1959 in Barnesville, Georgia, Charlie was the beloved son of the late Annie Ruth Brantley Lawrence and Marshall Lawrence, Jr. He graduated from Lamar County Comprehensive High School in 1977.

Charlie was an Aviation Electrician’s Mate Chief Petty Officer (AEC(AW/SW)) in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1977-2000. During his service in the Navy, Charlie proudly earned the designation as both Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Good Conduct Medal. Charlie served with VAQ-33 at Naval Air Station (NAS), Key West, FL; with ATKRON FIVE SIX (VA-56) onboard the USS Midway (CV-41) homeported at Naval Station (NS) Yokosuka, Japan; with Aircraft Intermittent Maintenance Department (AIMD) at Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, Japan; with AIMD at NAS Adak, AK; with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Five (HC-5) at NAS Agana, Guam; with AIMD onboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73) homeported at NS Norfolk, VA; with AIMD at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA; and with AIMD onboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) homeported at NS Norfolk, VA. Charlie was a Plank Holder for the USS George Washington serving aboard when it was commissioned in 1992 and for the USS Harry S. Truman when it was commissioned in 1998.

Charlie met his wife, Janese, while stationed at NAF Atsugi, Japan in 1985. In 1988, after Janese received orders to HC-5 in Agana, Guam, Charlie changed his orders to go there. They were married in 1990 in Barnesville, GA while still serving in Guam.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Charlie moved to Texas with his wife and two oldest children. He worked at Target for 20 years where he developed close friendships. Charlie will be remembered by his friends and family not only as being outgoing and funny, but as someone with the heart of a servant. He was always willing to help someone in need. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed cooking, baking, and watching TV. He especially enjoyed watching sports, home repair shows, cooking shows, and cartoons.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Janese Lawrence; his children, Jackie Allen (Rhys), Terry Lawrence, Derrick Lawrence, and Mikaela Lawrence; his grandchildren, Marian and Xavier; his siblings, Rickey Lawrence (Julie), Linda Faye Lawrence, Tony Lawrence (Shalonda), and Shirley Chapman; his Aunt Mable Brantley, who helped raise him, and his cousin, Jeannie Brantley, who was like a sister to him.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Annie Ruth Brantley Lawrence and Marshall Lawrence, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3905 Hickox Road, Rowlett, TX 75089 on Saturday, August 22, 2026 with visitation at 10 am and the Funeral Mass following at 11 am. Burial with Military Honors will take place on Monday, August 24 at 11:15 am at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Charlie’s memory.
