Charles “Dewayne” McCreary, 91 of Garland, passed away at home on July 24, 2025, after a long battle with Cancer. Dewayne was born February 11, 1934, in Royse City, Texas the son of Edgar & Beulah McCreary
Dewayne graduated from Garland High School in 1952. While attending high school he met Betty Nelson in 1954. After her graduation from GHS in 1956, they were married July 28, 1956, at First Christian Church where they attended until his death. Dewayne and Betty were married for 69 wonderful years. They had three boys Mark, Brad, and Scott. Eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Dewayne had a love for horse and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He showed his calves all through high school and received many ribbons. During his senior year he was president of FFA. Dewayne joined the Texas Air National Guard in 1950 where he served in
Garland for 8 years and was honorably discharge at the rank of Sargent in 1958. Dewayne went to work for The State Bank in Garland in 1952, while in high school, and stayed through many bank name changes. He started in the file room, became a bank teller, loan officer and then was vice president when he retired from Bank of America in 1994 after 42 years of service.
Dewayne and Betty were active in First Christian Church in Garland all their married life. Dewayne served several years as a deacon, was treasurer for 3 years, and a greeter for several years. He and Better were Grapevine care group leaders for 12 years, where they provided support to those in need in the church. They also served Meals on Wheels for 15 years providing meals for those in the community.
Dewayne is survived by the love of his life Betty, his 3 sons- Mark, Brad, and Scott. One Daughter in Law Tina. Eight Grandchildren: Olivia, Candace (Kenny), Landon (Chelsea), Kayla (Austin), Matthew, Jack, Josh, and Katie. Five Great Grandchildren- Sage, Sutton, James, Noah, and Brooks. One brother Lyn and Sister in Laws Maribeth and Ginger. Several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Dewayne is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Dale, and one Nephew Mitchell McCreary
Dewayne was a family man. He loved taking vacations with our families. His most precious times were in Ruidoso, New Mexico where they vacationed for over 50 years.
We would like to thank Holding Hands Hospice for their love and care they gave Dewayne and Betty during this time. Special thank you to Aqua, Shanna, Yeta, Patience, and Meg.
