Charles Brett Irby, a secondary social studies teacher who grew up in Rowlett, TX, died on May 7, 2025, at the age of 45 due to stage IV clear cell renal carcinoma.
Brett is survived by his wife, Shannon Irby; their three children, Ahava Irby, Malachi Irby, and Jubilee Irby; and his brother, Eric Irby.
Brett was born on May 30, 1979, to Kathy Potter and Richard Irby. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in history and worked as a secondary social studies teacher in China and South Carolina. On May 18, 2006, he married Shannon, the wife God brought him from 9,000 miles away. On Sep 20, 2008, Feb 26, 2011, and Aug 06, 2012, he welcomed his 3 beautiful children, who were the most important part of his life.
Brett was a devoted father and a man who trusted in God's good will at all times, even amid battling stage IV cancer. He enjoyed traveling to different countries and traveled to many countries in East and Southeast Asia. He worked for six years in China as a Christian educator. Brett was passionate about passing his faith to his children and his students. He taught Sunday school both in the US and in China. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and those who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm on May 17 at Charles W. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Reverend Larry Jiang will officiate. Flowers, donations, and condolences may be offered at 807 Highland Dr., Rockwall, TX 75087
