Charla Catherine Hays

April 30, 1954 — March 29, 2026

Whitney, Tx

Charla Catherine Hays, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of fierce loyalty, quiet humor, and an unwavering love for all living things.

Born in Dallas on April 30, 1954, Charla entered the world as a fraternal twin, arriving just two minutes after her brother. Growing up, she earned the lifelong nickname "Picky"—a playful nod to the time she managed to finish an entire jar of pickles in one sitting. Though she was known for being "tiny but fierce," those who knew her best understood that her strength was matched only by her deep reliability; if you needed her, she was there without question.

Charla’s professional life was marked by a diverse set of talents and a heart for service. She spent years in the construction industry, serving both as a secretary and a project manager. Later, she followed her compassionate nature to a nursing home facility, where she found great joy and fulfillment in caring for the elderly.

Beyond her work, Charla was a gifted artist. She found peace and expression in the craft of leather tooling, creating beautiful, intricate wallets and belts. Her most defining passion, however, was her love for animals. Whether she was working as a pet groomer or rescuing a stray in need, Charla’s home and heart were always open to four-legged friends.

Though she was naturally shy, Charla possessed a wonderful sense of humor. To those lucky enough to be in her inner circle, her laughter was the best reward—especially when it ended in her signature, infectious snort.

Charla was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Calvin Hays and Bettie Ella Hooper, and her twin brother, Charles (Charlie) Calvin Hays II.

Her memory will be cherished by her sister, Bobbie Hays Lay of Garland; her niece and nephew, Angela and Jake Walker of Van Alstyne; and her great-nephew, Braxton Roberts of Van Alstyne. She is also survived by her "bonus" family, Lauren and Chris Roberts, and bonus great-nephews Logan and Mason Redmon, all of Van Alstyne, along with countless dear friends in Whitney and beyond.

While she will be missed terribly, her family finds comfort in knowing she was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her parents, her twin brother, and the numerous pets she loved so dearly throughout her life.
