It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Betty Ramsey, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Betty passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on November 19, 1938, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Arthur and Mae Longino. Betty had seven siblings, three brothers and four sisters, and her early years were filled with the love and laughter of family. She was preceded in death by her sisters Joyce Gearner and Wynelle Martin, and her brothers Lawrence Longino and Dewey Longino. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris Ferguson and Diane Fanning, and her brother, A.C. Longino Jr. Her family was a source of strength and inspiration throughout her life.
Betty's journey took her to Texas, where she graduated from Lindale High School. In Dallas, she met the love of her life, Milton Ramsey, whom she married on April 18, 1959. Their 67-year union was blessed with two sons, Matthew and Marshall Ramsey, who, along with Milton, survive her. Betty was a devoted and nurturing mother, and her sons were the pride of her life.
Betty's love for music was a defining aspect of her early years. She embarked on a singing career as a teenager, making weekly appearances on a local Dallas TV channel and performing in various venues in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Louisiana. Her talent and charm caught Elvis Presley's attention, who invited her to join him in his free weekly performances at Fort Hood, TX. Betty occasionally graced the stage with the legendary performers, creating memories that she cherished throughout her life.
Growing up, Betty was a dedicated member of the Church of the Nazarene in Tyler, Texas. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. In later years, she occasionally attended Meadows Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, where her son was a pastor, and her faith continued to flourish. She was a devoted Christian who found solace and strength in reading her Bible each night before bed. Her warm, beautiful smile and caring attitude toward others were testaments to her deep and abiding faith.
Betty's legacy extends to her cherished grandchildren: John David Ramsey, Jordan Ramsey and his wife Vivian, and James Ramsey and his wife Cynthia. Her love and wisdom have left an indelible mark on their lives, and they will carry her spirit forward through the generations.
In addition to her family, Betty loved listening to gospel music. Her appreciation for music reflected her joyful spirit and zest for life.
Betty Ramsey's life was a testament to love, kindness, and faith. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will be remembered forever.
