Alvin Bryson Ponder was born to Eula and Grady Ponder on September 18, 1932 in Frost, Texas. Bryson joined the Navy after his graduation from high school. After his deployment, Bryson attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, Texas. It was in college that he met the love of his life, Patricia Bass. They married in June of 1955 and were married for 53 years. Pat preceded him in death in 2008.
Bryson received his degree and started his teaching career in the Dallas Independent School District as a math teacher. After teaching for several years, Bryson began a carert at Sullivan Transfer where he worked for 25 years. After retiring, Bryson returned to teaching as a substitute teacher in the Community Independent School District.
Bryson is survived by his four children; Denise (Lanny) Boyd, Dianne (Chris) Strickland, Craig Ponder, and Keith Ponder. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Landon (Doriece) Boyd, Julie Rogers, Amber Simmons, Hope (Joshua) Saenz, and Bryson Ponder, as well as, ten great-grandchildren; Chelsey (Biyron) Sunsin, Brennen Boyd, Latham Boyd, Legend Boyd, Tanner Simmons, Kellen Simmons, Cruz Rogers, Mila Saenz, Sawyer Saenz, Savannah Saenz, and three great-great grandchildren: Penelope Sunsin, Lincoln Sunsin, and Theodore Sunsin. Bryson is also survived by a sister, Freda (Clyde) Smart. Three sisters and a brother preceded him in death. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
